Beresfords Footpath

The 3rd December 2011, saw the official opening of phase two of the footpath along Beresfords Hill.

The footpath was opened by several generations of Parish residents that will use the footpath regularly.

The footpath has taken several years to come to fruition and provides a safe route from the Quarries to the village.

This section of the path runs behind the hedge bordering the grounds of Beresfords. The path and fencing have cost £32,000 and was funded by the Parish Council and a grant of £2000 from Cllr Eric Hotson's members highway fund.

The Parish Council would like to thank the owners of Beresfords for their co-operation in entering into the necessary legal agreement allowing the footpath to be constructed at this location.

Scout Community Week

Scout Community Week  14th – 20th May 2012

The Scout Association has developed an exciting new fundraising campaign to help Scout Groups across the UK make an impact on their local communities.  Part of the fundraising will support the valuable work of the Development Grants BoardGrants are made available for a range of things including starting a new Scout Group, leader training, trustee/executive training, minibus training, support for members 'in financial hardship' and for members with special needs.

Scout Community Week takes the best bits of Scout Job Week and offers Groups the opportunity to design a fundraising project that delivers real benefits locally.  B&Q are supporting Scout Community Week and we will be approaching local businesses regarding sponsorship or donating resources for the chosen project.

Boughton Monchelsea Scout Group are therefore asking the Parish Council, Maidstone Borough Council and members of the local community to suggest projects which would enable the boys and girls to help the community.  You may be aware that the Scouts already do a Parish Litter Sweep twice a year and raise funds by recycling clothing, waste paper, etc.

Please contact Robin Fuller with your ideas for projects, large or small, which can then be put to the Group Executive and Scout’s Forum. We are keen that, where possible, the chosen projects can involve the whole group; Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

There is a lot more information on www.scouts.org.uk/scoutcommunityweek.

Buses Saved from Withdrawal

Buses Saved from Withdrawal

Cllr. Mike Fitzgerald recently met with the Cabinet Member Cllr. Bryan Sweetland and KCC Officers to discuss the rural bus services in east Maidstone. Those present at the meeting were impressed with the detailed response and welcomed the positive approach to addressing the need to make savings while at the same time identifying possible solutions to maintain a service put forward by Cllr. Fitzgerald.

The outcome is that the need of passengers on the service have been recognised and the Service will continue under the current contract unbroken to the end of this year and for 2012-13.

There is still a need to press for increased use of the services to avoid any  further review going forward but if that becomes necessary the proposals will be reconsidered before any re-contracting.

Cllr. Fitzgerald would like to thank the Group Members and County Members for all their support and will asking to agree a date for a meeting to look at how the support the service continues going forward.
